President's Message - Happy 2019!

Simon Sinek is one of my favorite people who I have yet to meet. His words of wisdom, especially those about leadership, ring so true, and this quote remains on my short list. As HR professionals, it is important to remember that “H” is for “human.”

Uncovering Everyday Inclusivity

As Human Resources Professionals, we often address the topic of diversity and inclusion from the perspective of recruiting, on-boarding and retaining a diverse workforce. A diverse workforce is no longer the square box that can be checked off by hiring employees across different genders, races and/or age groups.

A Fearless Look to the Future

Most of us are creatures of habit: We start our day the same way each morning, take the same route to work and arrive at work with the same methodology of “getting our day underway.” If we operate our lives in the same manner each day, how do we get out of the “rut” that many of us find ourselves in? How do we discover and then implement new creative ways of working that still enable us to meet the vision of our organizations? One of the major reasons I am passionate about the HR profession, and have been for many years, is because each day is different and filled with surprises and unknowns.

President's Message

HERE WE ARE AT THE BEGINNING OF A NEW YEAR – IT’S HARD TO believe it is 2018. It seems the start of a new year always makes us think about new goals on both a personal and professional level. As HR professionals, we are reminded that our team members have and/ or need goals, too. Sometimes these goals are placed before them as challenges – not by themselves, but by their employer. This can keep team members engaged, as it makes them feel their work is valued, and help with an issue that remains top-of-mind for HR professionals no matter the year, such as employee retention.

HR Always Learning

In this fast paced, ever changing and technologically driven world we find ourselves consumed and busy – too busy to even visit dear childhood friends, call our parents or read a book – any book not bound with 90% advertisements and pictures that is. We tell ourselves we are too busy. The reality is that we find time for the things that we believe are important or that we make a priority.

Being Mindful in Changing Times

With 2016 firmly in the rearview mirros, the possibilities ahead of us as an organization for 2017 are unlimited. As I reflect on what is yet to come, I am struck with life’s unpredictability. While it may seem counterintuitive, factoring in the unpredictable somehow makes me feel more in control.

Do The Numbers Really Count?

Like a lot of people, as the year comes to a close, we reflect on our year and try to count the successes we’ve had or the areas that still need attention. I too am reflecting and wondering what the numbers really mean. Did they have an impact on our business, our professional roles, and our personal lives?
