HR Florida could not be successful without the hard work and support of our volunteer leaders, those chapter presidents and board members who make up the HR Florida State Council. This annual award recognizes a volunteer who actively supports, promotes, and develops the human resource profession through volunteerism. Chapter presidents selected the winner by evaluating nominees on the overall contributions the nominee has made to support the chapters, advance the profession, and drive council effectiveness through outstanding approaches, innovative ideas, and promotion of the Society and Council.
Deborah Herman is the 2012 HR Florida State Council Volunteer of the Year. For the last seven years, Deb has served the Council faithfully in various roles, but in 2012, she took on additional responsibilities in support of HR Florida initiatives making her the ideal recipient of this honor.
Deb’s contributions to our Sponsorship Committee increased our sponsor participation to an all-time high at our Leadership conference this past January. The sponsor and exhibitor venue that was established received outstanding reviews by both attendees and sponsor representatives. HR Florida depends on the support of our sponsors to be able to provide the Leadership Conference at no cost for our members. It is vital to our continued success that our sponsors are pleased with the results of their investment and plan to join us for future events.
During 2012, the Council took on new and incremental technological initiatives that put a significant strain on our technology resources. Deb, willingly “raised her hand” to offer her support to assist. She was unfamiliar with our technology products, but took on-line tutorials and quickly got up to speed so that she could be a knowledgeable resource and valuable contributor at a time of critical need.
Deb assumed the labor-intensive, yet sensitive role of handling speaker logistics for the inaugural HR Florida Executive Summit held in May. The nationally renowned speakers that were engaged for this event are accustomed to VIP treatment and Deb made each of them feel very welcome and valued.
Deb is in her final year of eligibility serving as District Director of District 10—Southeast Florida. While serving in this role since 2008, Deb has been the liaison between her chapters and HR Florida and SHRM and has partnered with her chapters to ensure their continued growth and success.
Deborah Herman exemplifies the impact and importance of volunteerism and HR Florida is proud to name her as our Volunteer of the Year!
