Workplace Diversity and Inclusion is not about hitting a target number or percentage. It is about recognizing the value of all the differences that employees bring with them to the job. What can you do this year to celebrate diversity every day?
Create a plan for 2017:
• Review your policies: Are they up to date? Do you need to modify them to cover new and emerging trends (i.e. transgender transitioning)?
• Update D&I training: What new topics do you need to train on? What review should you provide to hiring managers, recruiters, and organizational leaders?
• Celebrate the diversity in your organization: Do you offer Employee Resource Groups? Do you host a diversity “block party” showcasing diverse food, music, and culture? Do you encourage understanding of diverse holidays and celebrations? What about the art work in your common areas – how does it reflect diverse styles or perspectives?
