A Look at the 2013 HR Florida Conference

One of the primary functions of human resources is change management.

At HR Florida, we typically serve two-year terms. I was honored to change roles and serve as this year's (and next year's) Conference Director. As we celebrated our 35th anniversary, we were excited to look at the past, present and future of our industry, the state and our organization. Ten of the past presidents of HR Florida were able to join us this year!

Another change we managed this year was our new venue. After having spent six years at the beautiful Rosen Shingle Creek, we were warmly welcomed at the new Hilton Bonnet Creek (HBC). The staff at HBC was phenomenal and helped make the transition a smooth and exciting one.

Our closing keynote speaker, Peter Sheahan, was full of energy and definitely delivered. He spoke of British American Tobacco and their business practices. One that really hit home for me was their review process of “start, stop, and keep doing.” The simplicity and effectiveness of these three questions is amazing. Review these with your staff: 1. What should I start doing?, 2. What should I stop doing?, 3. What should I keep doing?

I am currently using this to review the 2013 conference as we are already well on our way in planning 2014 and beyond. It also works great in the office and at home. I know my husband would like me to start having more down time, stop buying new shoes and keep doing everything else - but there is always room for negotiation! I encourage you to try these “start, stop, keep doing” questions in your personal and professional lives and let us know how it works.
