How Can We Update our Compensation Program?

Pat Szczesny, PHR, was awarded SHRM’s District Director of the Year award at the HF Florida State Council meeting in January. Pat is a longtime member of the HR Florida State Council, and she is instrumental in maintaining the highest level of professionalism, and enthusiasm for the chapter she supports.

On January 10, 2014, HR Florida student chapters representing five universities from around the state participated in the second annual HR Florida Student Games in Orlando. Both undergraduate and graduate teams, consisting of between three to six team members competed in the event.

More than 325 volunteer chapter leaders traveled to Orlando for the HR Florida Leadership Conference on Saturday, January 11th. Conferees represented their respective chapters by wearing logoed shirts and sitting together during the general sessions.

On October 25, 2013, Carol McDaniel, President-Elect of HR Florida State Council, and Robert Garcia, Director of Global Business Development at SHRM, met with a group of Chinese Human Resource representatives in Orlando. The purpose of the meeting was to exchange best practices and learn how the State Council and SHRM operate.

HR Florida could not be successful without the hard work and support of its volunteer leaders. Volunteer leaders are chapter presidents and board members who make up the HR Florida State Council. The Volunteer of the Year is an annual award that recognizes a volunteer who actively supports, promotes, and develops the human resource profession through volunteerism.

A Look at the 2013 HR Florida Conference

One of the primary functions of human resources is change management.

At HR Florida, we typically serve two-year terms. I was honored to change roles and serve as this year's (and next year's) Conference Director. As we celebrated our 35th anniversary, we were excited to look at the past, present and future of our industry, the state and our organization.

Student Games Competition

The Southeastern Student SHRM Student Games and Conference was held in Washingtion, DC, March 8-9, 2013. HR Florida was well represented with two teams attending the competition. The University of Central Florida, who won our State competition, represented us in the undergraduate division; and Florida Tech competed in the graduate division.
