For over 30 years, emoticons have been used as symbols added to text based communication to convey a sender’s state of mind or the emotional nuance of a message. Many of us spend most of our day communicating through electronic means, when in fact, sometimes we are close enough to hold hands or are sitting in the next room.
Some say that the road to success is paved with patience, hard work and perseverance, while others believe it is paved with failures. Either way, when it comes to reaching that final destination, what matters most is how the road is driven. For companies with multiple stakeholders, systems and processes, there is a lot to consider before setting the course.
When I say “HR and Technology,” what immediately comes to your mind? When the theme for this issue of our magazine was shared with me, I had to think about what that really means to me. It probably conjures up different mental images for each of us. Some will immediately think about their recruiting tools and applicant tracking systems, others will reflect on their payroll system or their comprehensive human resources management systems.
Growing up in the 60s, we knew technology would change our world. We watched Star Trek and the Jetsons. We looked forward to having a wrist device like Dick Tracy used to see and talk to his team. We trusted our president when he said we would land a man on the moon! We believed anything would be possible in the next 50 years.
