Monthly District Spotlight: Featuring District 6

District 6 includes South Brevard SHRM, St. Lucie County HRA, and Treasure Coast HRA. All three chapters have exciting news to share with our HR Florida colleagues!

South Brevard SHRM (SBSHRM)

Over the past year SBSHRM partnered with the Brevard Achievement Center for their Diversity and Inclusion initiative. Their mission is to provide persons with disabilities innovative services and opportunities to achieve personal success. They were thrilled to be able to share their message with hundreds of HR professionals in the community. Each month SBSHRM engaged members to raise awareness about BAC and created opportunities for members to support the great work they do at BAC. The partnership was a success and on October 23rd, SBSHRM was honored at BAC’s annual Employ, Empower: Achieve (E2A) Awards event. The chapter received the “Moving Forward” award which recognizes organizations that have made special efforts to assist people with disabilities in gaining new skills or improving access to employment opportunities. It was a wonderful opportunity for SBSHRM to be recognized with two other honorees at the event in the presence of hundreds of community leaders.

In addition to the recognition and accomplishes above, SBSHRM has made an impact in other areas and partnerships. SBSHRM awarded a $1,000 scholarship to a member of their student chapter. With their sister chapter, Space Coast HR Association, they hosted the 22nd Annual Space Coast HR Conference. The event was sold out yet again and offered over 200 attendees legal updates, professional development, and the chance to network with HR practitioners and small business owners.

St. Lucie County Human Resource Association (SLCHRA)

SLCHRA is definitely making a presence in St. Lucie County. SLCHRA's current membership includes over 100 human resource professionals from a variety of organizations in the Ft. Pierce & Port St. Lucie, Florida areas. The chapter also was selected for the Business & Industry Award for Non-profit organization hosted by the St. Lucie County Chamber of Commerce.

To top the year off, on October 25, 2019, SLCHRA hosted its annual “Best Places to Work” Ceremony, with a record-breaking number of over 170 attendees, where fifteen (15) St. Lucie County employers were recognized for their commitment to their employees.  This Pinnacle Award winning program recognizes St. Lucie County employers that stand above the rest based on their survey data, to include turnover rates, growth percentages, employee development, promotion percentages, insurance packages, retirement plans and more.

Treasure Coast

Treasure Coast Human Resource Association (TCHRA)

Treasure Coast HRA is wrapping up a year of many firsts. TCHRA had their first half day conference in April: Employment Law for the Frontlines, focusing on Legal Issues for frontline managers. Watch for the 2020 Conference next April.  TCHRA added several breakfast meetings throughout the year to accommodate so many that can't make it out of the office midday. Lastly, their study group has seen huge success in assisting eight (8) people achieve SHRM certifications this year. TCHRA continue to see amazing growth and awareness in the community and will continue to assist our local veteran community.
