College Relations Conversations: SBSHRM Student Chapter Event Recap!

sbshrm recap

On March 21, 2019, the South Brevard Society of Human Resource Management (SBSHRM) - Student Chapter (housed at Florida Tech in Melbourne Florida) hosted the event, "How to gain a professional edge: Establishing a professional image." Professor Mims, a professor in the College of Business at Florida Tech, was the guest speaker.

The purpose of the event was to provide students with tips on how to develop a professional appearance for interviews and networking events such as conferences. Professor Mims provided advice on clothes to wear, including but not limited to: which colors look best, clothes that flatter one's body type, and which clothes are classified as "business casual" or "business formal." In addition, Professor Mims gave pointers on hair, makeup, and accessories at the end of the talk.

Students who attended the event benefitted from the advice of a seasoned business professional on what is expected in terms of appearance in corporate settings. In addition, the event took place shortly before the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology's (SIOP’s) annual conference held in Washington D.C. The timing of this event allowed students to adjust their planned conference attire based on Professor Mims's advice. On behalf of the SBSHRM Student Chapter, we send our deep gratitude to Professor Mims for her time and expertise.

Very Respectfully,

SBSHRM Student Chapter Members
